Men of Consequence - Past

Viktor Frankl 1905-1997

Viktor Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist who survived the horrors of the Holocaust and went on to become one of the most influential figures in existential psychology. His experiences in Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz, shaped his understanding of human suffering and resilience. In his seminal work, "Man's Search for Meaning," Frankl explores his belief that the primary drive in humans is the pursuit of meaning, even in the most difficult of circumstances. He developed logotherapy, a form of existential therapy focused on helping individuals find meaning in their lives, which he saw as a key factor in mental health and well-being.

Five amazing facts about Viktor Frankl:

Holocaust Survivor: Frankl spent three years in various concentration camps, including Auschwitz, where he lost his parents, brother, and pregnant wife. Despite the immense suffering he endured, he maintained his belief in the importance of finding meaning in life.

Prolific Author: Frankl wrote 39 books, which were translated into multiple languages. His works cover a wide range of topics, including psychology, existentialism, and the human search for meaning. "Man's Search for Meaning" has sold millions of copies worldwide and continues to inspire readers.

Legacy: Frankl's ideas have had a lasting impact on psychology and philosophy. His emphasis on the importance of finding meaning in life, especially in times of suffering, continues to resonate with people seeking purpose and fulfillment.

"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." - Viktor Frankl

Lead By Faith

⚡To better lead by faith, one must embrace a steadfast belief in the power of prayer and trust in God's ability to answer. To many times we waiver in our faith, doubt that God can truly answer prayer, especially for challenging circumstances. The Apostle Paul addresses the concept of being double-minded in his letter to the James. In James 1:6-8, he writes, "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do."

Consider the following when you pray and exercise your faith:

Clarity in Prayer: When you pray, be specific and clear about your intentions. Clearly articulate your needs and desires to God, trusting that He hears and will answer according to His will. Avoid being vague or uncertain in your requests, as this can lead to doubt and double-mindedness.

Consistent Faith: Maintain a consistent faith in God's promises and His ability to answer prayers. Avoid wavering in your belief, even in the face of challenges or delays. Remember that God's timing is not always our own, and trust that He is working behind the scenes for your good.

Renew Your Mind: Continuously renew your mind with the truth of God's word. Meditate on scriptures that affirm His faithfulness and His willingness to answer prayers. This will help strengthen your faith and prevent doubt from creeping in.

By following these tips and maintaining a steadfast belief in God's ability to answer prayers, you can avoid being double-minded and lead with unwavering faith.

Lead Your Family

👉Empowering fathers to cultivate a love for reading within your families is a transformative journey that not only enriches your children's lives but also strengthens the bond between you and them. By taking proactive steps to create a reading-friendly environment and leading by example, you can inspire a lifelong passion for learning and literacy in your children. Here are some effective strategies to help fathers become powerful advocates for reading within their homes.

Lead by Example: Let your children see you reading regularly. Whether it's books, magazines, or newspapers, demonstrating a love for reading yourself sets a powerful example.

Read Aloud Together: Reading aloud to your children, regardless of their age, can be a magical bonding experience. Choose books that are engaging and suited to their interests and reading level.

Encourage Reading Choice: Allow your children to choose what they want to read. Whether it's fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, or magazines, supporting their reading preferences helps maintain their interest.

Visit the Library: Regular trips to the library can make reading an exciting adventure. Let your children explore the shelves and choose their own books. Many libraries also offer reading programs and activities for children.

Limit Screen Time: Set boundaries around screen time and encourage reading as an alternative. Create a balance that allows for both entertainment and educational activities.

Discuss Books: Engage your children in discussions about the books they're reading. Ask them about their favorite characters, plot twists, or what they've learned from the book. This helps deepen their understanding and appreciation for reading.

Celebrate Reading Achievements: Acknowledge and celebrate reading milestones, such as finishing a book or reaching a certain number of pages. This can help reinforce the joy of reading.

Make Reading a Daily Habit: Set aside a specific time each day for reading, such as before bedtime or after dinner. Consistency can help establish reading as a regular and enjoyable part of your family's routine.

Own Your Health

🥶Are you active and always sore? You may want to consider cold plunging. A cold plunge involves immersing the body in cold water for a short period, typically after exercise or as part of a spa therapy. This practice is believed to offer various health benefits due to its effects on the body's circulation, metabolism, and recovery processes.

Benefits:

Improved circulation: Cold plunges can help constrict blood vessels, which may improve circulation and reduce inflammation.

Reduced muscle soreness: Cold water immersion may help alleviate muscle soreness and aid in muscle recovery after intense physical activity.

Enhanced recovery: The cold temperature can help reduce swelling and tissue breakdown, potentially speeding up the recovery process.

Increased metabolism: Cold exposure can stimulate the production of brown fat, which may help increase calorie burning and metabolism.

Strengthened immune function: Some studies suggest that cold water immersion may have a positive effect on the immune system, potentially reducing the risk of illness.

👉Hiring a financial advisor can provide valuable guidance and expertise in managing your finances, helping you achieve your financial goals and secure your financial future. Financial advisors can offer personalized advice, help you navigate complex financial decisions, and provide ongoing support and guidance.

Benefits of their role as a fiduciary:

  • Putting your interests first: As fiduciaries, financial advisors are legally obligated to act in your best interests, providing advice that is tailored to your individual financial situation and goals.

  • Providing objective advice: Fiduciary advisors offer unbiased recommendations, free from conflicts of interest, ensuring that their advice is solely focused on helping you achieve your financial objectives.

  • Ensuring transparency: Fiduciary advisors are transparent about their fees, services, and potential conflicts of interest, helping you make informed decisions about your financial future.

Other things to consider:

  • Focus on long-term goals: When investing, it's important to keep your long-term financial goals in mind. A fiduciary advisor can help you develop a comprehensive investment strategy that aligns with your goals and risk tolerance, ensuring that you stay on track even during market fluctuations.

  • Diversify your investments: Diversification is key to reducing risk in your investment portfolio. A fiduciary advisor can help you build a diversified portfolio that spreads risk across different asset classes and investment types, increasing the likelihood of achieving consistent returns over time.
