Men of Consequence - Past

Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II, demonstrated unwavering determination and leadership during a critical time in history. His speeches and resolve helped rally his nation against the Nazi threat.

As a man of consequence, Winston was met with much resistance from someone who should have supported him…his own father Lord Randolph Churchill. Winston’s childhood was not easy and could have made a victim out of the man, but despite the obstacles he faced early on in his life, he persevered and used it as a fuel towards developing into a man who would become one of the most well-known leaders in history.

Taking an excerpt out of Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men by Stephen Mansfield, Winston Churchill summarized his journey and others with: “Famous men are usually the product of an unhappy childhood. The stern compression of circumstances, the twinges of adversity, the spur of slights and taunts in early years, are needed to evoke that ruthless fixity of purpose and tenacious mother wit which great actions are seldom accomplished.”

Additional Fact: Winston Churchill had a passion for art and produced over 500 paintings during his lifetime. He often painted landscapes, portraits, and scenes from his travels. His artwork was kept relatively private during his lifetime, but in recent years, his paintings have gained recognition and have been exhibited in various galleries and museums. It's an interesting and lesser-known aspect of his multifaceted personality.

Alex Mont-Ros and founder of Men of Consequence named his youngest son Winston after the great leader Winston Churchill.

Lead Your Family

Family meetings are essential for busy professionals to connect and lead their loved ones on a consistent basis. Here are key tips:

Priming: Explain the purpose to your spouse and kids before you start having family meetings. Make sure the family is fully aware the reason why you will all be doing family meetings and don’t surprise them with an impromptu meeting.

Agenda: Plan topics, including personal check-ins. Have your agenda set before the meeting. Think of the challenges you face as a family and things you want to discuss.

Listening: Practice active listening, avoid interruptions. Don’t be the “Lecturing” dad. This is a time to have your kids and wife share their hearts and truth.

Celebration: Recognize achievements to boost morale. Ask how your kids are doing, recognize them for the character they are developing and demonstrating which is leading them to becoming successful adults.

Follow Up: Ensure action items are addressed. Take note of action items that you will all be responsible for which were captured during the meeting. This is where your kids learn the power of accountability as you lead them to become responsible to their word and commitments.

These meetings foster family bonds and success. Visit www.familymeetingplanner.com for more information and resources.
